The board and the setup

The board has 24 narrow triangles, the points, in four quarters of six. The bar in the middle divides it in two.

Each player has 15 checkers. You play the checkers at the bottom; their points are numbered from your side, 1 to 24. Your checkers move from your 24 point down to your 1 point. Your opponent's checkers move the other way, so your 24 point is their 1 point.

The starting position. Your home board, points 1 to 6, is marked.

At the start, you have:

  • two checkers on your 24 point, in your opponent's home board,
  • five on your 13 point,
  • three on your 8 point,
  • five on your 6 point.

Your opponent's checkers sit on the same points, counted from their side.

Each player has two dice, and there is a doubling cube in the middle, at 1. The numbers beside the board are the pip counts: how far each side still has to move. At the start, both have 167.
